Ram Navami is the celebration of the birth of Shri Ram, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Ram was born to King Dashrath and Queen Kaushalya in the Tretha Yug. His birth is celebrated as a spring festival on the ninth day of Chaitra Navratri. This festival falls in the Shukla Paksha (brighter half Waxing Moon period) of the Chaitra Month.

Paksha is the fortnight on either side of the full moon. : Shukla Paksha is a period of 15 days which begins on Shukla Amavasya (New Moon) day and culminates in Poornima (Full Moon).

Krishna Paksha is a period of 15 days which begins on the Full Moon day (Poornima) culminating on the New Moon day (Amavasya). This is the Waning Moon period.

Ram was born in Ayodhya along with his brothers Bharat, Lakshman, Shatrughan. His birth is celebrated by taking out processions singing his praises. The procession is of Raja Ram (King), his wife Sita, his brother Lakshman and his eternal worshipper Hanuman. Many people converge from various parts of the world to Ayodhya and take a dip in the holy Sarayu river.

The Goddesses they represent are Kumarika, Trimurti, Kalyani, Rohini, Kali, Chandrika, Shambhavi, Durga, Shubhadra. The nine forms of the Goddess worshipped during the nine days are — Shailaputri, Brahmaharini, Chandraghanta, Kushmada, Skandamata, Katyayani, Kaalaratri, Mahagauri, Durga or ParaShakti.
